I’m knee-deep in research right now — almost literally. I’m working with at least three notebooks open at once, and my laptop open, multiple windows aimed at some really fantastic databases. I discovered, with much joy, that the Cornell University Library has an extensive collection of materials on witchcraft, and I’m busily attempting to come up with a plan to make my way up there. This plan, at the moment, depends largely upon my winning the lottery, so it will probably not work any time soon.

Four poems yesterday, and two planned for today — I’m hoping to keep up the pace. Most of the poems are from a new perspective — the point of view of the accuser. These are, perhaps, the most difficult poems to write, largely because I’m so attached to the witch and to her side of the story at this point, two years into the project. It’s strange, though — I’m having an awful time getting back into her poems, speaking again with her voice. I wonder if this is a sign that her story is complete.

I will admit that yesterday’s Siege was truncated by television: specifically, VH1’s Rock Honors 2: The Who. Though I felt guilty taking such a long break from my work, it was worth it for Eddie Vedder’s impressive Rock Scream during Pearl Jam’s cover of “Love Reign O’er Me” (I’ll try to embed the video — WordPress is being a bit grumpy about video lately). Is there anything better than Quadrophenia? And is there anything better than a good Rock Scream? I wonder if there’s a poetry equivalent of this …

In other news, I’m trying to keep myself from thinking about my publishing dry spell. My mojo, it seems, has run dry, as symbolized by my car hitting a wall. Ah, well. At least there’s still symbolism in real life.
